Jonathan Smith addresses emotion level from team after Michigan fight
The Michigan vs. Michigan State game on Saturday ended with a fight as both teams were very emotional as the game came to a close.
Spartans head coach Jonathan Smith shared the emotion level he saw from his team after the game while speaking with the media on Monday.
“Yea, on Sundays we take a deep look at the game. And we’re obviously about correcting and improving,” Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith said. “We’re going to watch it and [there are] some things we want to build off of. Some things we’ve got to clean up.
“Spoke to a little bit of the emotion of the game. That locker room, when I walked in after that game, this thing means something. It was frustrating. I actually told them that’s a good thing.”
Coaches obviously do not enjoy seeing their players upset. However, that’s what Jonathan Smith saw and he was happy he did.

“If I’d have walked into the locker room and these guys are just staring at their phones, we’d have problems. We didn’t have that,” Smith said. “This thing was emotional, and that’s how we want to be playing the game.”
Big Ten releases statement on Michigan-Michigan State fight
The rivalry between Michigan and Michigan State has been intense and the tensions between the two sides boiled over on Saturday night when a fight broke out at the end of their game. Now, the Big Ten has released a statement on the incident.
In the statement, the Big Ten shared that it had reviewed footage of the incident. However, due to an inability to clearly see the athletes who were in the middle of the skirmish clearly, the conference had an inconclusive review of the incident. Therefore, no further action will be taken.
“The Big Ten Conference thoroughly reviewed video of the incident that occurred at the conclusion of Saturday’s Michigan-Michigan State football game,” the statement read. “Amidst the confrontation, student-athletes from both teams were on the ground and surrounded by so many individuals that both players were completely obscured from view.”
