Los Angeles Centennial cornerback LaRue Zamorano had his eye on numerous schools back in the spring. As the 6-foot-2, 175-pound three-star progressed through the summer, it became a battle between Michigan State and Washington. He took official visits to both schools and the Spartans ended up on top.

“I went back and forth between the schools a few times, and it was tough, but I feel confident choosing Michigan State as my school,” Zamorano told On3. “I was there for the spring game and that is where it started with Michigan State.

“Michigan State feels like a home away from home. It was a family decision and it just felt right. We had a lot of conversations about the schools and Michigan State just felt right. I will go there in January, then my brother will go there as a student next June, so it was about the family.

“The coaches made it feel like home for me and my family. That is what pushed them over Washington.”

Over 20 schools offered Zamorano, who is ranked as the No. 44 cornerback in the country and No. 42 prospect in California.

Blue Adams and Demetrice Martin have strong relationships with Zamorano

Blue Adams was recruiting Zamorano when he was at Oregon State last year. Demetrice Martin was doing the same at Oregon. The two joined Jonathan Smith when he took over in East Lansing and those relationships helped the Spartans win this battle.

“Coach Meat (Martin) was recruiting me in the 9th grade,” Zamorano said. “Coach Blue has been recruiting me for a couple of years too. I am a relationship guy, and my recruitment was about relationships, so having those connections made me feel very comfortable.

“When I was on the official visit, I knew I would be playing for those guys. I talked to them, coach Smith and the feeling around the coaches made it easy.”

The official visit closed Zamorano’s recruitment out. He felt good in the spring at Michigan State, then on the official visit in June, he made up his mind.

“It was right. The feeling and the people made it right. I like the coaches, the people and how genuine the staff is at Michigan State.”
