The hits keep coming for Michigan State football as Syracuse (N.Y.) Christian Brothers Academy three-star defensive back Syair Torrence became the latest to decommit from MSU on Sunday afternoon.

Torrence had been committed to the Spartans since June 25 after previously decommitting from Syracuse.

However, after the firing of MSU head coach Mel Tucker earlier this month, the Spartans program is in turmoil and he is looking for a new home.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank God for continuing to watch over myself, my family, friends, teammates and all those closest to me,” he wrote on Twitter. “The current situation at Michigan State, surrounded by a lot of uncertainty, has been one I’ve gone back and forth about in previous weeks. After discussing with my parents and coaches, I think it’s best that I consider all options for my future at the next level. I am officially de-committing from Michigan State and my recruitment is now 100% open. Praying I find a stable, consistent football home as my journey continues. Trusting the Lord throughout the process.”

He becomes the third Michigan State pledge to decommit from the program since news of Tucker’s expected firing broke in September. Four-star safety Reggie Powers and three-star cornerback Camren Campbell have left MSU’s class as well.

Prior to Tucker’s firing, Michigan State’s 2024 class ranked No. 43 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Now, following Torrence’s departure, the Spartans have the nation’s No. 61 class and could fall even further with four-star commits Nick Marsh, Anthony Carrie and Andrew Dennis all being pursued by other programs.
