Former five-star cornerback Tony Grimes has committed to Michigan State after entering the transfer portal this offseason. He played at Texas A&M this past year after originally coming over from North Carolina.

Grimes’ time in College Station was short and unfortunate. He never played a single down for the Aggies this fall as an injury from the preseason lingered throughout the year and just never allowed him to get healthy enough to actually play. Every time he got close to a full recovery, setbacks ensued. Jimbo Fisher said during the season that Grimes’ lower body injury “swells up and bothers him for a couple of days” seemingly every time he practiced.

Hopefully, he’ll be fully healthy and ready to go in East Lansing, because he did put up some solid numbers as a Carolina corner. In three years with the Tar Heels, Grimes racked up 97 total tackles, 3.5 for a loss, along with 19 pass deflections, one interception and one forced fumble.

Prior to his time in Chapel Hill, Tony Grimes played at Princess Anne high school in Virginia Beach, where he was a five-star recruit in the 2020 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He was also rated the No. 19 overall prospect and the No. 3 cornerback in his cycle.
