Michigan State officially announces hiring of pass rush specialist
Michigan State has hired Brandon Jordan as its pass rush specialist, the school announced Saturday. On3’s Matt Zenitz first reported the news on Wednesday.
Jordan doesn’t have much college coaching experience, but he has developed quite the reputation as a trainer. He has worked with several NFL stars including TJ Watt, Chandler Jones, Cameron Heyward and Jadeveon Clowney. In all, he has trained 195 players that are currently on NFL rosters.
Jordan is expected to continue training NFL players while working with the Spartans. That could bring some big names through East Lansing, which would be a big win for recruiting.
A New Orleans native, Jordan also brings a bit of coaching experience to Michigan State. He previously served as the defensive line coach at Austin Peay in 2014 and 2015. In East Lansing, he will focus on coaching the defensive ends, while defensive line coach Ron Burton will handle the defensive tackles.

Michigan State already the best pass rush in the Big Ten this past season, averaging a league-leading 3.31 sacks per game. In spite of this, however, they ranked last in passing defense, giving up 325.1 yards per contest through the air.
The Spartans had an extremely successful season in coach Mel Tucker’s second year with the program. They finished with an 11-2 record, including a Peach Bowl victory against Pittsburgh. In spite of this, there are still many things to work on heading into next season. The addition of Jordan should help to improve the passing defense as Michigan State aims to be one of the best teams in the Big Ten.
Brandon Jordan will make his debut as Michigan State pass rush specialist on Sept. 3 when the Spartans open 2022 against Western Michigan. In the meantime, he will continue to keep himself busy training some of the best athletes the NFL has to offer.
