Michigan State pitcher Joseph Dzierwa has withdrawn from the transfer portal and will return for the 2025 season. He has spent the past two seasons with the Spartans and will be a junior this upcoming year.

Dzierwa started in all 14 of his appearances this past season as he led the team with 84 innings pitched. He earned second team All-Big Ten honors after posting a 4.07 ERA with 91 strikeouts compared to just 27 walks. He threw for a career-best 11 strikeouts in the final game of the season against Nebraska.

Dzierwa was committed to play for Vanderbilt this coming season before withdrawing his name from the portal and opting to return to MSU. Now the Commodores lose one of their top transfers as the total number for the team falls to six.

As a true freshman in 2023, Dzierwa started 16 games and led the Spartans with 60 strikeouts across 74.1 innings pitched. He was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team after recording a 5.69 ERA.

Dzierwa is one of the taller players in college baseball at 6-foot-7. The southpaw attended Otsego (OH) High School, where he hold the single season record for strikeouts with 115. He was the No. 484 overall prospect coming out of high school according to Prep Baseball Report.

Michigan State finished this past season with a 24-27 record and will aim to improve upon that number with its ace back on the mound. He will be eligible for the MLB Draft following this year, where he should command a lot of interest.

The Spartans also added Lansing Community College pitcher Jeff Agar this offseason after he posted a 3.18 ERA this past season. MSU loses pitchers Nick Powers and Aaron Mishoulam, so the return of Dzierwa and addition of Agar are both welcome.
