There appears to be some fallout following the Michigan State Spartans‘ upset loss on the road to the Penn State Nittany Lions. After the game in, the postgame press conference, Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo expressed frustration and disappointment in his team’s performance. But the head coach’s statements are not what has garnered the most attention, it’s the lack thereof from the Spartans basketball team.

After the game, no Michigan State players were made available for postgame comments, according to beat writer Kyle Austin. He also went on to say that this is the first time he has experienced such a situation in his eight years of following the Spartans basketball team.

Michigan State blew a 14-point lead, late in the second half, falling on the road to the struggling Nittany Lions. Penn State is one of the conference’s underperforming teams of the season; heading into that game with a 9-12 overall record and a 4-9 conference record. But after Tuesday’s game, count a win in both those columns for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State upsets Michigan State with late run

The Penn State Nittany Lions just boosted their NCAA tournament resume with an upset victory over Big Ten rival, No.19 ranked Michigan State Spartans. After being down 14 midway through the second half, the Nittany Lions battled back thanks to a stellar shooting performance by forward Seth Lundy.

Lundy was on fire from deep, connecting on five of his 12 shots from beyond the arch. His 17 point performance led all scorers on Tuesday’s home victory. Lundy gave the Nittany Lions the lead with this stepback dagger of a shot.

The win improves Penn State’s record to 10-12 on the season. The season is still not over for Penn State as they try and bounce back from a sluggish start to the season. As for Michigan State, they fall to 18-6 on the season. Head coach Tom Izzo came into Tuesday’s game needing a win to tie Bobby Knight for the most wins in conference history. Unfortunately for Izzo, he will have to wait till their next game, Saturday against top-ranked Illinois, for a chance at history.
