On3 4-star safety Reggie Powers commits to Michigan State
Dayton (Ohio) Centerville four-star safety Reggie Powers was set to take a few more official visits. If he does so, he’ll do so as a committed man. Powers has decided that Michigan State is home.
The Spartans made a major impression on the On3 four-star over the weekend. Powers was in East Lansing for his official visit over the weekend.
Powers saw what he needed to see. He went into the weekend with an idea of where he wanted to be. The official visit sealed the deal.
“As soon as I stepped foot on campus it felt like home to be honest,” Powers said. ”Everything about the coaches, players, and culture felt welcoming and family like.”
Taking a deeper look opened Powers’ eyes to a few things.
“The players were very real with me with anything I asked, Powers said. ”I feel like my fit in the defense is perfect, which shows my versatility with covering and being aggressive in the run fit at the nickel position.”
Coaches made a major impact on Reggie Powers
He was able to sit down with head coach Mel Tucker on the visit. Tucker made strong pitches. His history at Georgia and beyond of sending defensive players to the NFL made a major impact on Powers.
“I spent a lot of time with coach Tucker,” Powers said. “He is a very competitive coach and his energy is great. He is a defensive guy himself more specifically DBs, so that was big for me as well.”

Michigan State checked a few boxes. Michigan State’s culture was a big winner. Powers felt like a priority in East Lansing. He and secondary coach Harlon Barnett have been in deep conversations for months.
Being close to his position coach was big for Powers.
“I have a great relationship with coach Barnett he was the first person I got in contact with from MSU and offered me in May,” Powers said. “Since then, we have talked or textsd almost everyday. He has great experience in the league playing DB and has been coaching a long time too. It’s very important because that’s the person I’m going to be with the most at the next level.”
The four-star safety is locked in on Michigan State. He can now focus on his senior season. He has high hopes for what he and Michigan State can accomplish in the coming years.
Powers can see a lot of potential in what Tucker and his staff are doing in East Lansing.
“My focus right now is to focus on my senior season and to get better for my freshman year in college, then ultimately I want to play my first year in college.”
