New broke a few days back that, upon his return home, Jeremy Fears, a guard on the basketball team at Michigan State, had been shot in the leg during an incident. Now, as of this afternoon, Tom Izzo has shared as much as he can on the latest regarding the freshman.

Izzo spoke about Fears’ matter during a media availability after practice on Thursday. He said he doesn’t have all the details, which is why he was only going to say so much on it, but did state that Fears will be back in East Lansing on Friday to begin his rehab from the wound.

“The elephant is I don’t know more than you guys know,” said Izzo. “It’s a tragedy, what has happened. It’s really a shame. I don’t know anything about any of the details. I’m not going to answer anything because I don’t know anything. If I did, I’d tell you off the record.

“Jeremy is coming back tomorrow. He’ll be with us here rehabbing,” Izzo continued. “Other than that, as far as the incident? There were two or three people, I guess, that were shot but I don’t know any of that. There has been no police report that I’ve had.”

Fears returned to Joliet, Illinois, which is right outside Chicago, for the holidays. Heading into the weekend, the university then made the announcement that Fears had suffered the non-life threatening injury to his leg.

“Jeremy underwent surgery this morning and is resting comfortably,” Izzo said in the release. “While there is much we still don’t know, my focus is supporting Jeremy on his road to recovery.”

In a dozen appearances as a Spartan, Fears has averaged 3.5 points and 3.3 assists of the bench.

Fears joined Michigan State as a four-star prospect in their most recent recruiting class, which finished No. 6 nationally. He was a Top-50 prospect in the nation, the No. 11 PG, and the top player out of the state of Illinois as he hailed from Joliet West.

Again, Izzo could only provide so much information considering what he knows on the matter. For now, all they can do is continue to support Fears as he works his way back from the situation from the past few days.

“If there’s a question, I’ll try to answer it. But if it’s not? I’m going to tell you I’m not answering it,” said Izzo.
