Samford transfer guard Trey Fort III committed to Michigan State. He started his career at UT-Martin and Mississippi State before arriving at Samford this past season.

Fort spent one season with the Bulldogs and put up the best numbers of his career. He averaged 14.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists while starting all 33 games. Samford finished third in the SoCon and played in the NIT, falling to George Mason in the first round.

Fort previously spent one year at Mississippi State, where he averaged 5.0 points and 1.8 rebounds in 20 games, including seven starts. That came after two seasons of JUCO ball and one year at UT-Martin as a true freshman in 2020-21.

Trey Fort III is a Big Spring (TX) native, but played high school basketball at Florence (MS) before heading to UT-Martin. The 2024-25 season will be his final year of eligibility.

Fort is the second transfer portal addition for Tom Izzo and Michigan State since the window opened following the Round of 32. Former Florida Atlantic forward Kaleb Glenn announced his commitment to the Spartans April 10.

Glenn started his college career at Louisville before making his way to Boca Raton last year. He took a big leap forward at FAU, leading the Owls in scoring while also adding 4.8 rebounds and shooting 53.1% from the field across 35 games, including four starts.

Fort and Glenn will help fill out the roster after some notable departures. The Spartans have lost three players to the transfer portal so far, most notably guard Tre Holloman and forward Xavier Booker – who committed to NC State and UCLA, respectively.

However, MSU has two highly rated recruits coming in from the high school recruiting trail in Cam Ward and Jordan Scott. Both four-star recruits, Ward is the No. 53 overall player in the nation while Scott comes in at No. 55 overall in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

MSU is also preparing to lose guard Jase Richardson, however. He announced he intends to declare for the 2025 NBA Draft after ranking second on the roster with 12.1 points per game while shooting a team-high 41.2% from three-point distance.
