In the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Michigan State, led by Tyson Walker, pulled off an upset over Marquette. One of the key reasons the Spartans were able to pull off the upset was that Michigan State was able to avoid turnovers in the game.

Point guard Tyson Walker explained how Michigan State avoided turnovers throughout the game.

“I think this whole year I’ve been doing a good job just not taking chances with my passes, staying under control,” Tyson Walker said.

Tyson Walker is a transfer to Michigan State from Northeastern. He’s proven to be an incredibly important addition to the Spartans roster this season and he had a massive game against Marquette. In it, he had 23 points and zero turnovers.

“And down the stretch, Joey [Hauser], everybody just said to give me the ball at key times. And I made big plays.”

Michigan State beat Marquette 69-60 in their second round matchup. The reward for Michigan State is a trip to the Sweet Sixteen, where the Spartans will play Kansas State. In that game, the Spartans are currently a 1.5-point favorite.

This is yet another strong run into March Madness for Tom Izzo at Michigan State. This has happened several times in his career, even when he’s had inconsistent teams, which he thinks is due to the nature of a tournament.

“I’d like to say I hope not because that means I’m not doing my job all the time. My job is to get them ready each and every game,” Tom Izzo said. “But I do think that we talk a lot about tournaments. We talk a lot about the Thanksgiving tournament or the Big Ten, or the Big Ten Tournament. Anytime you get a chance to win games where if you lose, you go home, I think you’ve got to — or lose and you’re not going to finish first — I think we do talk about that a lot at our place.”

Tyson Walker had his car towed

Just because you’re playing in the NCAA Tournament doesn’t mean you can park anywhere on campus, as Tyson Walker found out. He had his car towed by the university during the first weekend of March Madness.

In a post on his Instagram story, Walker wrote, “How I get back to campus and they towed my car.”

Tyson Walker will have to be more careful where he leaves his car ahead of the Sweet Sixteen. Those campus parking attendants can be brutal.
