WATCH: Michigan State secures win with Jayden Reed touchdown catch
Michigan State secured their win over Penn State on Saturday after a fourth-and-15 play resulted in a 20-yard touchdown catch by receiver Jayden Reed. With the heavy snow and injury affecting Michigan State’s kicker, the Spartans opted to try a play to convert the long fourth down. The touchdown would be the cushion they needed to win 30-27 after a late scoring drive by the Nittany Lions.
Jayden Reed’s huge touchdown
Michigan State appeared to have all the momentum as the game was reaching its end. With the snow falling heavier in the final quarter, Penn State attempted a fourth-and-one rush just outside of the red zone while down by three. The Spartans got the stop and forced a turnover on down.
On their next drive they were forced to punt, and Michigan State’s punt appeared to be affected by the inclement weather as it only went for 24 yards. From there, the Spartans forced a huge fumble from Penn State running back Keyvone Lee.
With great field position, the Spartans drove down to within the red zone and appeared to be on their way to a touchdown. Then, on a third down run designed for Reed, Penn State managed to blow up the play for an eight-yard loss and forced the long fourth down.

With no real option to kick the field goal in the heavy snow and based on their kicker’s injury, Michigan State called on Reed to make a play over his defender. Reed set up just inside the end zone and out-jumped the defense for the huge touchdown, giving them the lead they would need to close out the game.
The win gave Michigan State a ten-win season, narrowly finishing third in the Big Ten East behind Michigan and Ohio State.
