With Jim Harbaugh headed to Los Angeles, there’s a vacancy left at Michigan. However, it’s currently no secret regarding who is in the running to succeed him. As such, Adam Schefter would be quite surprised if it doesn’t play out exactly like most people think.

Schefter discussed the Wolverines’ opening during the ‘College GameDay Podcast’ on Wednesday following Harbaugh’s departure. He believes that this season was a sneak peek at what’ll be ahead for the maize & blue as OC Sherrone Moore would be the natural candidate to slide back into the role that he often played as the interim last fall.

“Well, I think we got a glimpse of the future when we saw Sherrone Moore,” said Schefter. “He stepped in, they went unbeaten under him. He has a lot of the qualities, I think, that school would be interested in.”

Moore, the Wolverines’ offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, has spent the past six years on staff. He stepped up when necessary this year, though, as the interim head coach in place of Harbaugh for four games due to separate suspensions. In those matchups, Michigan went 4-0, including victories over their top competition in the conference against Penn State and then Ohio State in The Game.

A state law is going to prolong the process a bit and give the program time to cover their bases. However, by the end of the week-long wait, Schefter would be stunned if anyone besides Moore is the next head coach at Michigan.

“I think they’ll look at some other people but I think he goes into this as the undisputed favorite to get the job,” Schefter said. “I think it’d be a major upset if he didn’t get it in the end.”

Schefter: Michigan could not offer a Super Bowl to Jim Harbaug

After leading Michigan to a national championship, Jim Harbaugh will be the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who was the first to break the news, joined SportsCenter in the immediate aftermath after dropping the bombshell. He broke down what led Harbaugh to his decision to return to the NFL after nearly a decade.

“Here’s the deal. Michigan had an offer on the table to make him the highest-paid coach in college football,” Schefter said on Wednesday. “Michigan, though, could not offer him the chance to win a Super Bowl. And, really, that’s ultimately it.”

“He would have loved to have stayed at Michigan. Michigan would love to have had him. But the fact of the matter is the Chargers give him the ability to compete for a Super Bowl,” said Schefter. “I think that Jim Harbaugh clearly was interested in L.A., he was interested in Atlanta. But the first visit was to Los Angeles, to the Chargers. Because of that, that gave them, I believe, an advantage and Atlanta had carried on its business.”
