Former Michigan Wolverines star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson has drawn some lofty comparisons during the 2022 NFL Draft process, including to former Ohio State star Joey Bosa.

At the NFL Combine, Hutchinson was asked about the comparisons between he and Bosa, and admitted that he has watched a lot of Bosa’s film.

“Yeah I do think aspects of it are similar,” Hutchinson said of the comparisons to Bosa, via Sports Illustrated’s Fernando Ramirez.. “I’ve watched a lot of film on Joey. He’s a very talented player and he’s a great person to learn from.”

After three years at Ohio State, Bosa was selected third overall in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Chargers. With the Buckeyes, Bosa racked up 148 tackles with 51 tackles for loss, 26 sacks, five forced fumbles, and an interception. In six seasons in the NFL, Bosa has undoubtedly established himself as one of the top defensive players in the league. He has 291 tackles, 73 tackles for loss, 58 sacks, 129 quarterback hits, and 12 forced fumbles in his six-year career with the Chargers. Bosa is a four-time Pro Bowler, and he was named the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2016.

Hutchinson is coming off of an impressive season for Michigan, allowing for the comparisons to the likes of Bosa. This past season, Hutchinson broke Michigan’s sack record with 14, and also totaled 62 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, three passes defended, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He played 36 games in his collegiate career, racking up 156 tackles with 27.5 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, and five forced fumbles.

Hutchinson appears to be in line to be selected earlier than Bosa was

While Hutchinson has drawn comparisons to Bosa, who was taken third overall, Hutchinson appears to be in line to be drafted even earlier. Most mock drafts have Hutchinson going second overall to the Detroit Lions, while he is still in the conversation to go first overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars as well.

Earlier at the NFL Combine, Hutchinson shared a simple yet confident message to NFL teams and general managers. If there’s one thing that’s certain with Hutchinson, it’s that he most definitely does not have any doubt in his own play on the field.

“That they should take me,” Hutchinson said. “Because I am a very good football player and I’m a guy that’s very confident in my abilities.”
