It’s a big week for Michigan football as they get ready to take on in-state rival Michigan State. Rivalry games like this tend to change how teams play in the game and approach leading up to the game. Wolverines running back Blake Corum was asked about this while speaking to the media.

“You know, all the goals I feel like are important. I don’t put one goal more important than the other. Going undefeated, beating every team, is important,” Blake Corum said.

“So, I mean, obviously, we have Michigan State this week. In my time here, we haven’t beaten them. So, I’m focused on that right now. That’s very important. That’s the priority, right now.”

Clearly, Blake Corum is trying not to treat this game differently than any other. However, that’s difficult to do when you’re taking on a rival.

“So, to answer your question, I feel like every game we play is important, whether you put it one to four, it doesn’t matter where you put it. I’m focused on right now and Saturday.”

A four-star recruit in the Class of 2020, Michigan is 0-2 against Michigan State while Blake Corum has been on the roster.

“I think you approach every game with a high level. One thing I’ve been impressed with is our guys’ ability to approach every week, whether it was a non-conference schedule, the Big Ten schedule, with that same intensity,” Jesse Minter said.

“But, I think rivalries are a part of college football. They’re really fun. So, it’s–there are certain teams that you think about more. You think about them in the offseason. You prepare for them, maybe, different times of the year. So, I know this is a game that both programs circle, and looking forward to the first opportunity to play them.”

Blake Corum says that Michigan needs to avoid overconfidence

When you’re in Michigan’s position, coming off a trip to the College Football Playoff and unbeaten after blowing out Penn State, it’s easy to get overly confident. However, Blake Corum is hoping to avoid becoming overly confident.

“Football is a game anyone can lose. Anyone can lose on any given day. I think we’re confident with ourselves and confident in what we can do. I don’t think we’re overconfident just because of the type of team we are. We treat every game like it’s a championship game. There’s no such thing as going into a game like, ‘Oh, we’re about to dominate them.’ Obviously, we think that right? We want to dominate them, but it’s not overconfidence. It’s just being confident,” Blake Corum said.

“I feel like that’s how we’re going into this game. Just confident.”
