Blake Corum says Michigan's confidence is 'through the roof'
Blake Corum expressed the amount of confidence for Michigan going into the 2023 season. The two-time defending Big Ten champions lost two years in a row during the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Last year might’ve been particularly painful with an upset loss to TCU. But Corum opted to return to school and joined backfield mate Donovan Edwards and quarterback JJ McCarthy in one of the best trios in the country.
Long gone are the shattered confidence days Edwards alluded to during last year’s postseason, in are the new days of a confident Michigan team.
“Confidence is through the roof,” Corum said on Bussin’ With The Boys. “Yeah you know, the way we’ve been working this offseason the way the team’s camaraderie is,, we’re on a whole ‘nother level right now and going into camp tomorrow, it’s gonna be crazy.”
Corum’s injury in 2022 put a damper on the Michigan offense, but he’s very close to being back to full strength.
“I’m like 99 percent now,” Corum said on The 33rd Team’s ‘Road To Recovery.’ “I’ve got that one percent to get, and that’s going to come over these next two, three weeks. But by September 2nd, I’ll be ready to shine against East Carolina. My knee is good, my spirits are good, my mentals are good. I’m excited to be back out there with the boys and give y’all a show in The Big house come September 2nd.

“I’ve been participating in fall camp going on two weeks now. My cutting ability is great. But there are some minor things I want to tweak to it, just to be better than I was last year. Right now, I’m already as good as I was last year, but I want to be even better, so that’s where that last one percent comes in — and it’s coming. Now, it’s just a lot of reps, just being where my feet are day in and day out. By September 2nd, I’ll be 100 percent.”
Michigan was ranked No. 2 in the preseason AP Poll top 25, its highest ranking since 1991.
With Corum there to help out a confident Michigan team, the Wolverines could be in the running for a national championship when it’s all said and done.
Last season, Corum set career highs despite his injury late in the year. He finished with 247 carries, 1,463 yards, 18 touchdowns, 5.9 yards per carry, 11 catches, 80 receiving yards and one touchdown reception.
Over the course of his career, Corum has 417 carries for 2,489 yards, 31 touchdowns, six yards per carry, 40 catches, 294 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions.
