Blake Corum opens up on his emotions following injury
In 2022, Michigan Wolverines running back Blake Corum proved that he was one of the best running backs in all of college football. Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury against Illinois and after trying to tough it out against Ohio State, needed surgery to repair his knee.
It was an emotionally devastating injury for Corum that he recently opened up about.
“It went so many places, dude.” Blake Corum said on Bussin’ With The Boys. “Places I didn’t even think I could go to, you know what I’m saying? To like, mentally.”
Initially, it was unclear how severe the injury was and he tried to play through it. It wasn’t until he was away from the team, dealing with surgery, that everything hit him.
“When it first happened, I was like I was good. I was good until I went out to Cali, had surgery, and I was watching the Big Ten Championship on the TV, and that’s where I was like — you know, everyone said don’t feel bad for yourself but I started feeling bad for myself and then for my team because I wanted to be out there helping them. So, all these emotions were just going through my head.”
Michigan didn’t need Blake Corum to beat Purdue in the Big Ten Championship Game. However, the Wolverines did need help in the College Football Playoff. All the while, Corum battled his emotions.
“Then, finally, I drove to Arizona because I was in Cali. So, I drove to the game. That was the TCU game. So many emotions were going through my head, man. Should I go to the Draft? Should I come back? Then, I’m like, damn, I’m really on crutches for six weeks and then I had to get myself out of it,” Corum said.
“I got to a point where, me, I work out every day. I’m always in the gym, like hard work is never gonna be questioned, and I had to pull myself out of that because I didn’t want to do nothing. For a little while, I’m like I don’t feel like doing nothing, man. My upper body wasn’t hurt. I could still bench. Whatever you wanted me to do, but I didn’t even want to go to the gym. And I finally got myself out of that hole and that’s all she wrote, man.”

Luckily, Blake Corum has recovered from that devastating injury and will be at full health for the 2023 season. At Big Ten Media Days, Corum shared the news that he was medically cleared.
“I had a doctor’s appointment the other day, and the doctor cleared me,” Corum said. “Maybe I should double-check with him just to make sure that was the official clear, but I’m feeling great, so I’m going to clear myself.”
Blake Corum will share carries with Donovan Edwards in 2023, as he did in 2022. Together, they’re one of the most formidable rushing tandems in all of college football and they expect to make another run to a Big Ten Championship together. With a good season, Corum could compete for the Heisman Trophy.
Blake Corum says Michigan’s confidence is through the roof
Coming into the 2023 season, expectations are through the roof for Michigan. After two straight seasons making the College Football Playoff, the Wolverines are looking to make it over the next hump. According to Blake Corum, the team’s confidence is through the roof right now.
“Confidence is through the roof,” Corum said on Bussin’ With The Boys. “Yeah you know, the way we’ve been working this offseason the way the team’s camaraderie is, we’re on a whole ‘nother level right now and going into camp tomorrow, it’s gonna be crazy.”
