The Michigan to VCU pipeline through the transfer portal is continuing.

Brandon Johns took to Instagram Wednesday night to commit to the Rams. He’s the second Michigan transfer to head to VCU, joining Zeb Jackson.

Johns entered the portal earlier this month after four years with Michigan. This past season, he played in 31 games — including nine starts — and averaged 3.2 points and 2.0 rebounds per game as a senior. His biggest game came against Nebraska when he dropped 20 points as Michigan walloped the Cornhuskers 102-67.

He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer.

Johns arrived in Ann Arbor as a four-star recruit and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Michigan from the Class of 2018, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Since entering the portal, he became the No. 10 transfer on the market, according to the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings.

Michigan went 19-15 overall and 11-9 in Big Ten action in 2021-22. The Wolverines saw their season come to an end against No. 2 seed Villanova in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament after coming in as a No. 11 seed.

Brandon Johns joins Zeb Jackson at VCU

Earlier this month, Jackson announced his decision to transfer to VCU. Jackson only played in four games during the 2021-22 season for Michigan and missed several games due to a non-Covid-19 related illness. But even when he was healthy, he had trouble carving out consistent minutes in the Wolverines’ rotation.

In his four games, Jackson averaged 3.3 points per game in 8.8 minutes per contest for the Wolverines. He initially entered the transfer portal in January, but announced his move to VCU on April 2.

Michigan will be losing two more guards at the end of this season in DeVante’ Jones and Eli Brooks. The Wolverines’ lone guard coming in for next season is Dug McDaniel, so Michigan head coach Juwan Howard will likely be looking to the transfer portal to bring in more guards for his team.
