Bryce Underwood, Connor Stalions pose for picture ahead of Michigan-Northwestern game
After announcing his commitment to Michigan this week, Bryce Underwood posed for a picture with Connor Stalions ahead of the Wolverines’ game against Northwestern. Underwood plays high school football at nearby Belleville, where Stalions recently joined the staff.
Underwood flipped his commitment from LSU to the Wolverines earlier this week, sending a shockwave through the recruiting world. He had been committed to the Tigers since January, but Michigan ramped up its efforts to flip, and it all came to fruition Thursday evening.
Stalions – who was at the center of a sign-stealing investigation into Michigan last year – joined Belleville’s staff earlier this month as the offensive play-caller. He also worked at Mumford as defensive coordinator and, at one time, acting head coach, this season.
Underwood is the crown jewel of the 2025 recruiting class and had been committed to LSU since January. However, Michigan ramped up its NIL efforts – including crucial help from The Champions Circle – and put together a lucrative NIL deal. On3’s Pete Nakos had more details on Underwood’s recruitment and how NIL factored into his decision.

By landing Underwood, Michigan is keeping him close to home. The Belleville product is the No. 1 overall recruit from the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
The reactions poured in from across the college sports world after Underwood announced his flip. It wasn’t just college football figures weighing in, either. Michigan basketball coach Dusty May – although he couldn’t directly mention Underwood – addressed the magnitude of Thursday’s news from an athletics department perspective.
“I’m extremely excited to watch football next year in The Big House, and be excited to watch the clips on social media,” May said, via The Wolverine’s Clayton Sayfie. “This is a big day for the University of Michigan, and there are a lot of people that contributed to making this happen. We’re all grateful for that. We’re all going to benefit from acquiring talent like that.”
