Big Ten Media Days are underway, with Michigan coaches and players taking the stage Tuesday afternoon to preview their 2022 football season. Of course, Jim Harbaugh, Cade McNamara and company are coming off the best Wolverine season of last 10 years. Featuring a win over Ohio State for the first time in ten years. As well as a College Football Playoff berth.

Many great moments occurred throughout the great 2021 season for UM. Obviously a decisive victory over those rival Buckeyes sticks out to everyone. However, Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara was asked when he sat down with the Big Ten network what win other than the OSU one stuck out in his mind.

He answered somewhat surprisingly that a different red and white Big Ten foe gave the Wolverines a real gut check midway through the year. You can see McNamara’s answer right here:

“You know, there’s a couple great moments. I think the Nebraska one sticks out to me,” the 2021 starting QB said. Though he noted the Wisconsin game early in the year was a real wakeup for everyone in terms of playing on the road in front of raging fans post-COVID lockdown.

“Even though the Wisconsin game was really tight — for the majority of our team — their first away game with fans. For me, Nebraska was a game that we had finally faced some adversity.”

Michigan actually jumped out to a 13-0 lead by halftime against the Cornhuskers. But Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez tossed three touchdowns and ran in a two-point conversion to put the Huskers ahead 22-19 heading into the fourth. Of course, UM wound up rallying to win, but not without a real test. McNamara was grateful for a tough game like that, though.

“I think that in the past we had struggled a little bit when it comes to rallying back from adversity and staying in the game as far as that. But, for us, when we came out on top of that game, it was huge for us. And huge for our program.”

According to QB1, that’s when he realized the ’21 Michigan group had a different attitude about them.

“I think, you know, that was when I first said this team is different. I think, really, it’s for that reason why that we were able to handle that level of adversity. And it really showed as we were put, really, into more difficult situations throughout the rest of the season.”
