Caleb Love addresses rumors about potential de-commitment from Michigan
Even though he committed to Michigan last month, rumors swirled that Caleb Love might back off that decision and re-enter the transfer portal. He put those to rest Thursday night.
Love took to Twitter to respond to those claims, retweeting a tweet from user @TrillyDonovan that questioned if the former North Carolina guard would wind up wearing a Michigan uniform at all next year. He said some things that will make Wolverines fans happy.
“Yes, I will play for Michigan next year! Stay tuned! Go Blue,” Love tweeted, along with blue and yellow heart emojis.
Love is the No. 3-ranked transfer to hit the portal this cycle, according to the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings, after transferring March 29. He announced his commitment to Michigan April 7 as he looks to build off his best year yet at North Carolina when he averaged 16.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game to lead the Tar Heels. It was an impressive follow-up to a breakout 2021-22 season in which he averaged 15.9 points per game and hit some big shots in the NCAA Tournament as UNC made a run to the national championship, where it fell to Kansas.

In his farewell to the Tar Heels before entering the portal, Love made it clear he wouldn’t be the player he is without his time in Chapel Hill. He provided an emotional statement on his Twitter page as he announced his intention to transfer.
“My time at UNC has been rewarding and inspired me to grow on and off the court. I’m extremely thankful to God for this journey,” Love wrote in his post. “I’d like to give a special thank you to Coach Roy Williams for opening up the door of opportunity by recruiting me to play at UNC and to live out my dream of playing for this program. Thanks to Coach Hubert Davis and the coaching staff for allowing me to play under their leadership the last two years and constantly challenging me.
“To my teammates, I will always cherish the bonds we created over the years and the memories that will last a lifetime. I’ve taken some time with my family to re-evaluate what’s best for me to continue to grow as a player and I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal to continue my journey. Thank you, UNC family and community, for embracing a kid from St. Louis. I will love you all forever.”
