In the whirlwind of the Michigan sign-stealing scandal last year, reports emerged claiming lead perpetrator Connor Stalions had a 600-page manifesto outlining the future of Michigan football. During an appearance on Bussin’ With The Boys, Stalions revealed the truth behind the “Michigan Manifesto.”

“I know exactly how that how that leaked. I know exactly who leaked it,” Stalions said. “Here’s how I know. The article said something about a 600-page Michigan Manifesto. Six hundred pages, that was in like 2018, 2019. It’s gotta be in the thousands by now.

“… I found this out the hard way, a Google doc can’t go over 1,000 pages, so it’s multiple Google docs.”

Stalions has been outspoken in the past on his attention to detail and organization. In Netflix’s Untold: Sign Stealer, Stalions went in-depth about his process of cataloging opponents’ signs. He went as far to record himself performing the opponents’ signs to memorize them.

Evidently, Stalions’ obsession with extreme organization began far before he ever started working at Michigan.

“This is what happened. OK, so I go to the Naval Academy,” Stalions said. “My freshman year, I’m like, ‘Wow, I’m going to learn a lot and I need to have a place to organize everything I learn. I can’t let one little thing slip by.’

“A lot of people, when they take notes, they take notes, whatever, and then they just stack notes, and how do you know where to reference?… I use the way that the military organizes everything as like my foundation for how I’m going to organize my notes.”

As time progressed, Stalions received more and more opportunities to add to his ever-growing notes. From eye-catching plays to nutritional tips or even leadership lessons, there was no end to Stalions’ manifesto.

However, one subject was particularly important to him: his beloved Wolverines. He intermittently volunteered at Michigan and was eventually hired by the program in 2022 after retiring from the Marine Corps.

Before long, Connor Stalions’ notes became longer than most textbooks and he was forced to adapt.

“It started off as a binder, and then that got too big, and then I needed something electronically,” Stalions recalled. “It went to a Microsoft Word document, and then I realized, ‘Well, I need to be able to capture any thought or any idea at any time.’

“I could only do a Word document if I had my specific laptop. So, then it translated to a Google doc. Now, I can do it from my phone, from anywhere. I can do it right now. You give me a great quote — pull up my phone, type it in. It’s in the manifesto. I know exactly where it is.”

After Michigan was caught for sign-stealing last year, Stalions resigned. Now as the Detroit Mumford High School football head coach, Connor Stalions uses his treasure trove of information to try to lead his team to victory on Friday nights.
