Sherrone Moore pulled off a huge flip Thursday evening, getting quarterback Byrce Underwood, the No. 1 player per the On3 Industry Rankings, from the LSU Tigers. Michigan needed a quarterback for the future and now has their guy in Underwood. A massive win for the Wolverines, setting social media in a blaze.

Barstool’s Dave Portnoy gave his reaction shortly after the news came out, wearing a crown to celebrate the moment. Portnoy claims Michigan is now “back” after having a tough 2024 season — signifying the importance of Underwood’s commitment.

“How’s everyone doing out there?” Portnoy asked. “QB No. 1. No. 1. Not in the town, not in the district, not in the state. QB No. 1 in the country. Recruit No. 1 in the country. We don’t do four-stars at Michigan. We do five-star, we do No. 1 recruits in the country, we do national champions. I told you we’d do it.”

Portnoy has been vocal about helping Michigan find a top-level quarterback from an NIL perspective. Back in late September, he claimed “I’ll go sign them. $1 million. $2 million. Whatever it is…$3 million.” Shortly after, talks with Moore were confirmed by Portnoy himself.

Going back to Thursday’s news — in the same reaction video, Portnoy hinted at his involvement in the recruitment of Underwood. Conversations between the owner of Barstool and the quarterback’s family appear to have taken place, laying out what he could offer.

“Now, everyone is like ‘Dave, how much were you involved?’ There’s a lot of other factors. I’m not going to sprout from my mouth and say this, that, and the other thing. Was I involved with in a call with the family? Were they lovely people? Did we pitch a plan? Of course we did.”

National signing day just under two weeks away, scheduled for Dec. 4. When Underwood signs the dotted line, it will officially be a massive victory for Moore, his staff, and the entire Michigan program.

Underwood played high school football at Belleville (MI) High School, where he was a Five-Star Plus+ prospect. He was the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
