Davis Warren, Makari Paige describe what they saw in postgame fight with Ohio State
Davis Warren and Makari Paige didn’t see much when it came to the postgame brawl between Michigan and Ohio State.
The QB and DB pairing spoke afterwards and were happy for the win, putting it on the Wolverines. But when it came to the fight at midfield afterwards, they walked away.
Simply, emotions run high.
“I mean, I had a youth coach tell me once, whenever there was a fight on the field, just walk the other way,” Warren said. “So did that against Michigan State when they started getting chippy and it looks like, you know, Ohio did the same thing. So I didn’t see any of it.”
“The Game (means) a lot to both teams,” Paige added. “That’s really what it is.”
Paige was asked if the flag planting was what set it off.
“Maybe, maybe,” Paige said.
Michigan and Ohio State fighting isn’t anything new between the two schools. But first year head coach Sherrone Moore, who was certainly thrilled at the upset win, was disappointed with the postgame situation.
“It was emotions on both sides,” Moore said. “And our guys, I did see they had the flag and guys were waving it around and their guys charged us. So it’s emotion on both sides, it can’t happen. So rivalry games get heated, especially this one, it’s the biggest one in the country, so we’ve got to handle that better.”

While Warren and Paige headed to the locker room, Moore was also asked about the fact that Ohio State police and other law enforcement on the field seemingly used pepper spray to separate Michigan and the Buckeyes.
Moore was not overly exercised about that happening.
“Those were the officers that were around,” Moore said about the pepper spray. “They were just trying to control, the security was trying to control everything. They got both sides of guys, trying to make sure we took care of them. But we’ve gotta do a better job handling that, as a group. I’ll address it in the locker room, we’ll address it again. But that’s both sides.”
Warren stepped back in as starting QB after a rollercoaster season and it was certainly a ride during the Ohio State game. But he and Paige stepped up when it matted the most.
Sure, Michigan finished 7-5 and will go to just a bowl game after winning it all last season. But “The Game” victory was certainly the sweetest.
