Sherrone Moore was thrown into the fire in 2023 when he was forced to coach the final three games of the season for Michigan as the interim head coach after Jim Harbaugh was suspended.

Ultimately, Michigan went 3-0 under Sherrone Moore, beating some of the Big Ten’s best teams in the process. Now, as the full-time head coach, star running back Donovan Edwards cited that time as an intern coach for the Wolverines’ confidence in him in 2024 and beyond.

“I saw it as a glimpse at his career at Michigan,” Donovan Edwards said at Big Ten Media Days. “The confidence and the poise that he had. We didn’t know that Coach Harbaugh wasn’t going to coach the Penn State game, and went there before the game, they said, ‘Hey, Coach Moore you’re gonna be the coach.’ He took that role on strongly.”

Moore’s first game in the interim role came against Penn State on the road on short notice. After winning that game, he then led the team into Maryland for a win before beating Ohio State for a third straight season. During that time, he earned the confidence of the Michigan locker room.

Jim Harbaugh returned for the College Football Playoff while Sherrone Moore returned to being the offensive coordinator. There, the Wolverines won a national championship and when Harbaugh left the program for the NFL, Moore was promoted to head coach, this time on a full-time basis.

“Nothing has changed since him being the offensive coordinator,” Edwards said. “He’s still the same guy. He’s still high-energy. He still cares about his players. He still loves the coaches. He’s challenging everybody as he did as the offensive coordinator. So, nothing has changed and I’m excited for the rest of his career at Michigan.”

Donovan Edwards believes Michigan’s 2024 RB room could go down as one of program’s best

Donovan Edwards is one of the biggest returning names at Michigan and the running back room is expected to be good. However, Edwards believes that running back room could be better than good and go down as one of the program’s best.

“I think it could ultimately go down as one of the best running back backfields that the program has had,” Edwards said. “And that’s up to our hard work, that’s up to our preparation, but I truly believe that. I’m a confident person, you know that, and even if it doesn’t happen I’m still going to be confident.”
