There is no shortage of elite running back tandems in college football this season, but ask Michigan’s pairing and they’ll tell you who is best without hesitation: Them. Senior Blake Corum and junior Donovan Edwards were unequivocal when the topic came up with Michigan football alumni Taylor Lewan on an episode of “Bussin’ with the Boys.

As Lewan introduced Corum and Edwards, he said they were “maybe” the best running back tandem in the country. In unison, Corum and Edwards retorted.

“Maybe?” they said in stereo.

Lewan, hesitant to be labeled a homer, noted they’re talking about the entire country coast-to-coast, SEC included.

“That’s cool. I’ll be the first to say, he’ll agree: How are we not the best? When we both rushed for more than anybody else as a duo in the country,” Edwards said. “We’re going to speak it.”

Corum played off him.

“We keep it real, we’re gonna state the facts,” Corum said.

In 2022, there was one running back duo that out-rushed Corum and Edwards. It was Ole Miss’ pairing of Quinshon Judkins and Zach Evans, who totaled 2503 yards to the 2454 put up by the Michigan backfield duo. Edwards and Corum also scored 28 combined touchdowns, one more than Evans and Judkins.

Now, Evans is in the NFL and no team has a returning duo with nearly the same level of production as Michigan.

Some of the stiffest competition for this title is likely in Michigan’s division, too. Ohio State boasts TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams and Penn State has Nick Singleton paired with Kaytron Allen. But neither of those duos has quite the track record Corum and Edwards have.

As such, Edwards is taking him and Corum every time. And he’s not going to be meek or mild about hyping himself and Corum up this year.

“We’re not going to be apologetic, either. Let’s speak the facts. If we had the same conversation last year, what does that mean going into the next year with the same two players?” Edwards said. “Ok then.”

It’s entirely possible that Corum could’ve been in the NFL right now, too. A knee injury derailed that process from happening a year ago, but he’s also been glad to come back and work with Edwards for at least another year.

“There’s a lot of reasons I wanted to come back but this is definitely one of them,” Corum said.
