Dusty May admits Michigan is focusing too much on winning the Big Ten Championship

Michigan might be a bit distracted with them in the running for the regular season title in the Big Ten.
Following their 49-46 win at Nebraska on Monday, Dusty May spoke about the close nature of their games the past month with eight in total. He did say that some of that is just who this team is for the Wolverines as they continue to stress getting the most out of their play as their best is among the best in the country this season.
“I think we have an approach that’s sometimes probably a little bit too loose. You know, we try to really enjoy all of it. College basketball is such a privilege and honor to be a part of this. So we, we don’t – it’s not life or death every day,” said May. “You know, we want to work with great intent. And then our guys? We just try to preach a fearless approach. Let’s go out and our best is good enough and, wherever the chips fall, they fall.”
However, May also said that there’s almost too much for them on winning the Big Ten Championship. That has had their mind on the future rather than the present and has possibly impacted their outcomes.

“We probably actually stressed too much of the end goal because we’ve been in this contention and, lately here, you never know if your guys need some juice, they need some confidence, whatever the case,” May said. “We’ve probably talked too much about the championship instead of just sticking with our processes.”
Michigan has won seven of their last eight in conference play to currently be in a tie for first in the conference at 13-3 with Michigan State. However, the one loss came just last week at home to the Spartans with them now owning the tiebreaker with a rematch against one another to come in the season finale in East Lansing. Also, of the seven victories, none have come by five or more with each having a final margin of two, three, or four.
Wins are wins, especially with the Wolverines still right there at the top of the Big Ten. The maize & blue would like to extend those final scores, though, to stay up there with four games to go in league play.
