Former North Carolina guard Caleb Love commits to Michigan
North Carolina guard Caleb Love shocked many by entering the NCAA Transfer Portal, and we now know where he’ll continue his college basketball career.
According to his Twitter page, Love is taking his talents to Michigan to join Juwan Howard and the Wolverines.
Caleb Love became a fan-favorite over his time in Chapel Hill, averaging 16.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game over the 2022-2023 season. He rose to prominence for his clutch shooting and innate scoring ability, which was all on display during North Carolina’s run to the NCAA Tournament title game in 2022.
Last season didn’t go smoothly for North Carolina though, as the Tar Heels missed the NCAA Tournament in their encore from their 2022 run. Now, Love will be hoping to bring his clutch abilities and swagger to another program, looking for another chance at a title.
When Love entered the transfer portal earlier in March, he wrote a emotional letter to the Tar Heels, and it’s obvious he’ll carry the lessons learned in Chapel Hill into his next stage.

“My time at UNC has been rewarding and inspired me to grow on and off the court. I’m extremely thankful to God for this journey,” wrote Love. “I’d like to give a special thank you to Coach Roy Williams for opening up the door of opportunity by recruiting me to play at UNC and to live out my dream of playing for this program. Thanks to Coach Hubert Davis and the coaching staff for allowing me to play under their leadership the last two years and constantly challenging me.
“To my teammates, I will always cherish the bonds we created over the years and the memories that will last a lifetime. I’ve taken some time with my family to re-evaluate what’s best for me to continue to grow as a player and I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal to continue my journey. Thank you, UNC family and community, for embracing a kid from St. Louis. I will love you all forever.”
Now, Caleb Love has a chance to once again impact a program in a new way, hoping to make his mark on Missouri and bring the Wolverines to new heights over the 2023-2024 season.
Caleb Love is a former five-star recruit and was the No. 14 overall player in the nation from the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
