Four-star EDGE Collins Acheampong kept coming back to Michigan
Santa Margarita (Calif.) four-star edge Collins Acheampong couldn’t stop thinking about Michigan. After sleeping on multiple schools Acheampong is now committed to the Wolverines.
“Michigan was the one that I had no real big worries about,” Acheampong told On3. “It felt natural and it felt like a place I wanted to be. Even putting football and everything else out of it, Michigan is the place where I wanted to be.”
Michigan was a fit for Acheampong in more ways than one. Miami came close to landing the No. 317 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings.
Acheampong checked off a lot of boxes with Michigan. When the Wolverines offered, they quickly peeked the attention of Acheampong. He did a lot of research initially before taking a visit or building a relationship with the coaching staff.
Acheampong’s official visit to Ann Arbor played a big role in pushing the Wolverines over the edge as well.

“I think it really suited who I am and what my personality is,” Acheampong said. “It just makes sense for me. Other schools came close. Especially Miami. They also checked some of the basic boxes that I was checking, which were education, great football and people as well as the location.”
Acheampong is expected to primarily play defensive end. He could play some tight end in the redzone in the future.
He’s excited about the opportunity to develop in the Michigan program. Acheampong has made himself aware of the development of David Ojabo and Aidan Hutchinson.
There’s no rush to get on the field for Acheampong. He trusts Michigan’s coaching staff.
“If they can coach a guy up from basically one year of playing football, they can coach up anyone,” Acheampong said. “I’m not too worried about playing early. I’ll play when I am ready. I trust the coaching staff. I know when I’m ready, they’ll put me in.”
