'Free Jim Harbaugh' chant breaks out at Madison Square Garden
Michigan fans around the country are making sure their voice is heard on the Jim Harbaugh situation. At every opportunity possible, they are defending their head coach and trying to get him back on the sideline to coach. While most of the noise is coming out of Ann Arbor, it reached New York City on Monday night.
The Gavitt Games between the Big East and Big Ten are taking place this week, with Michigan playing at Madison Square Garden vs. St. John’s. Rick Pitino was the storyline heading up but the Wolverines got off to a fast start and eventually pulled away in the second half for a nice win.
With the basketball game already being decided, the Michigan faithful decided to turn their attention back to football. A “Free Jim Harbaugh” chant broke out at MSG and could be heard throughout the entire arena.

For the time being, Harbaugh is expected to be suspended for the final two games of the regular season. Michigan travels to Maryland and Saturday before playing host to Ohio State a couple of days after Thanksgiving.
Harbaugh being back for The Game would be a huge deal, with both teams likely putting their College Football Playoff lives on the line. There will be some extra spice on the field at the Big House either way, with the rivalry being taken to the next level.

A day before the game, the Big Ten Conference suspended Harbaugh for the remainder of the regular season under the league’s sportsmanship policy as a result of the NCAA ongoing sign-stealing investigation of the program.
On Monday Harbaugh was asked how he felt regarding being informed about his suspension from the conference on Friday afternoon, giving an interesting answer about the situation.
“I’m gonna talk on Friday, just looking for that opportunity, due process,” Harbaugh said. “Not looking for special treatment, not looking for a popularity contest, just looking for the merit of what the case is.
“Senior in high school I had a civics class and talked about government, justice, and what I took away from that class was that you’re innocent until proven guilty. That was 40 years ago, but like that opportunity.”
