Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene commits to transfer to Michigan
Fresno State Bulldogs quarterback Mikey Keene has committed to transfer to the Michigan Wolverines, On3’s Hayes Fawcett has learned.
Michigan will now be Keene’s third stop as a college quarterback, having previously played for the UCF Knights as well as Fresno State. His transfer recruitment then became one of the most interesting to follow as one of the top Group of Five players in the portal, as he also took a visit with Ole Miss as well as with Michigan.
Mikey Keene played his high school football at Chandler in Arizona. There, he was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 63rd-ranked quarterback and the 817th-ranked player overall in that recruiting cycle.
Prior to the 2024 season, Mikey Keene was one of the quarterbacks who was named to the Davey O’Brien Award watchlist.
Keene originally went to Fresno State looking for an opportunity to earn the starting job. He did and over two seasons he played in 24 games. With the Bulldogs, Keene completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 5,868 and 42 touchdowns to 21 interceptions. He has a career passing yards per game average of 211.4 yards.

In his time with UCF, Keene did see some significant playing time, appearing in 15 games, often as an injury replacement. However, in his sophomore season, he only played in four games, using a redshirt as he transferred out of the program. That will make him a fifth-year senior in 2025.
Mikey Keene is joining a Michigan team that struggled at the quarterback position in 2024. The Wolverines used several different quarterbacks attempting to replace first round NFL Draft pick J.J. McCarthy. Still, as a team, the Wolverines finished the season just 130th out of 134 teams in passing offense, averaging 133.6 yards per game through the air. Three of the teams behind Michigan were service academies. On top of that, as a team Michigan threw 11 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.
Head coach Sherrone Moore has been working hard to address the quarterback situation. From the high school ranks, Michigan was able to flip Bryce Underwood, a five-star quarterback who is the top-ranked player overall in the Class of 2025, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Now, Michigan has added an experienced quarterback in Mikey Keene through the Transfer Portal.
