Michigan big man Hunter Dickinson isn’t ready to make a definitive decision on his future with the Wolverines, but appears to be leaning one way. The junior had quite the afternoon Sunday, hitting a 3-pointer to force overtime in an eventual 87-79 victory against Wisconsin on Senior Day.

With the emotions still high following the big victory, Dickinson was asked whether he had given any thought to whether this would be his final home game in Ann Arbor.

“Wasn’t expecting that one,” he said. “I don’t think so. I don’t have the crystal ball. But if it was, it was a good way to end it. That’s for sure. But right now, I’m focused on trying to beat Illinois.”

Over the past three seasons at Michigan, Dickinson has averaged 16.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. This season he is averaging 17.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks.

Dickinson was considered one of the top pro prospects in the Big Ten heading into this season, though most recent mock drafts do not have him being selected. That could also be an indicator of his status for 2023-24, but for now he will wait to make his decision.

Dickinson ranks 22nd in school history with 1,498 career points and 13th with 730 rebounds. Should he return for another year, he’ll have an opportunity to climb the leaderboards even further.

The Wolverines currently find themselves on the NCAA Tournament bubble, so Sunday’s victory was huge for keeping them alive. They’ll have two more huge opportunities to close the season with wins against tournament teams in Illinois and Indiana, beginning with the Fighting Illini on Thursday.

Hunter Dickinson hits buzzer beater to force OT against Wisconsin

Hunter Dickinson made one of the more impressive buzzer beaters of the 2022-2023 college basketball season on Sunday afternoon against the Wisconsin Badgers. With his team trailing by three points with 2.1 seconds left on the clock, he gathered the inbounds pass from NBA range, and drilled a three-pointer nothing but net, to make the score 68-68 going into overtime, much to the delight of the Michigan home crowd.

Dickinson has been shooting 40 percent from beyond-the-arc this season for the Wolverines, incredibly rare for a big man. Rest assured, he hit a massive, massive shot to keep the Wolverines’ slim NCAA Tourney hopes alive on Sunday afternoon against the Wisconsin Badgers. On Feb. 25, ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi listed Michigan in the “Next Four Out” in his latest Bracketology Rankings.
