WATCH: Hunter Dickinson on season-saving shot: "Of course I knew it was going in"
With his team’s season on the line in the closing seconds on Sunday against the Wisconsin Badgers, Michigan big man Hunter Dickinson did not flinch. He did what superstars do. Dickinson delivered in crunch time when his team needed him the most. With his team trailing Wisconsin by three points with 2.1 seconds left on the clock, he gathered the inbounds pass from NBA range, and drilled a three-pointer nothing but net, to make the score 68-68 going into overtime, much to the delight of the Michigan home crowd. The Wolverines ended up winning the game Sunday in overtime, 87-79. The clutch three-pointer ended up saving Michigan’s season and, in the process, kept their slim NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
Following the win, Dickinson commented on the season-saving shot for Michigan.
A reporter asked Dickinson if he knew the three-pointer was going in once the ball left his hands.
“Of course I did. Of course, I knew it was going in. I practice that shot all the time, man,” Dickinson said in the postgame.
Dickinson has been shooting 40 percent from beyond-the-arc this season for the Wolverines, incredibly rare for a big man. On Feb. 25, ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi listed Michigan in the “Next Four Out” in his latest Bracketology Rankings.
He poured in 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out four assists in the win. Michigan ended up winning the game 87-79 in overtime, and it wouldn’t have been possible without Dickinson’s dagger from deep.

The Wolverines have now won three straight games when they desperately needed it, to at least push them in the conversation of the NCAA Tournament bubble. They currently sit at 17-12 overall and 11-7 in the Big Ten Conference.
Hunter Dickinson has carried the Wolverines all season long
Dickinson has carried the Wolverines all season long, so it’s only fitting their superstar center carried them yet again when they needed him to deliver the most. This season, he’s averaged 17.4 points (leads the team), 8.6 rebounds (leads the team), and 1.6 blocks (leads the team). He’s been one of the most dominant big men in America the past few seasons and luckily for Michigan, he once again showed up when they needed him the most.
Up next for the Wolverines, they’ll close out their regular season against the Illinois Fighting Illini (Mar. 2) and the Indiana Hoosiers (Mar. 5). We’ll see if they can make a late push into the 2023 NCAA Tournament, because they have pretty much zero room for error at this point.
