Jim Harbaugh adopted a motto from his father, Jack, this season in leading Michigan to a national championship. After the Wolverines defeated Washington on Monday evening to claim the title, Jack Harbaugh joined his son on the field and grabbed the microphone.

“I have a question if I might: Who’s got it better than us?!” he bellowed to a crowd of maize and blue. “Nobody!”

Jim Harbaugh and his brother, Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh, used to hear that question from their dad all the time when they were kids. They’d always respond with “nobody” and now it has followed both in their respective careers. After the national championship win for Michigan, it rings especially true.

The Wolverines were dominant from the start of the game, jumping out to a 17-3 lead by the early second quarter. Washington closed the gap a bit with a late touchdown to close the half, however, and trailed only 17-10 entering the locker room.

It took until the fourth quarter for Michigan to pull away for good thanks to a couple of late touchdowns from running back Blake Corum. He finished with game with 124 yards rushing while Donovan Edwards added 104 yards and a pair of scores of his own.

The national title victory was the first for Harbaugh in his career and comes after the Wolverines fell short in the College Football Playoff semifinals in 2021 and 2022. It is also the first time Michigan has claimed a national championship since 1997.

This year has certainly not been easy on Harbaugh, who served a suspension both to start and end the season. The coach was not with the Wolverines for the final three games of the regular season as the team faced allegations of sign-stealing.

Throughout it all, however, Michigan continued to win. Harbaugh returned for a shutout victory against Iowa in the Big Ten Championship and then led his team to an overtime win against Alabama in the Rose Bowl.

Their performance in Monday’s national championship was dominant as they never trailed the entire game. In addition to the big game on the ground, the defense also played well to hold the Huskies to just 46 yards rushing and force a pair of interceptions from Michael Penix Jr.

The future is now up in the air for Harbaugh as there are rumors he could decided to make the jump back to the NFL this season to join his brother. For now, however, he’ll continue to celebrate the big win with his family knowing no one has it better.
