After landing a commitment from Cheshire (Conn.) Cheshire Academy four-star defensive lineman Jerod Smith on April 25, Michigan has now added his twin brother, Jacob Smith, to their 2024 recruiting class.

Jacob announced his commitment to Michigan, choosing UM over finalists Notre Dame, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia and Nebraska.

Smith is the No. 255 overall prospect and No. 16 EDGE in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 6 player in Connecticut.

The duo named their top 10 schools together last fall, but Jerod announced his commitment first. Now, Jacob has joined up with the Wolverines as well.

“I feel we’ll probably end up going to the same school, just because we have similar interests and the same goals,” Jacob told On3’s Chad Simmons in October. “We’re brothers, we already have that built-in connection. We just build off each other and especially during the games, I know he’ll have his stuff and I’ll do my job. It’s build-in trust.”

Michigan continues to roll on the recruiting trail

With both Smiths in the fold, Michigan’s 2024 class sits at No. 5 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 2 in the Big Ten.

The duo are two of the Wolverines’ 16 four-star pledges in the Wolverines’ 2024 recruiting class. After finishing outside the top-15 in 2023, Michigan is very much on pace for a top-10 and potentially top-five recruiting class in 2024.

“He’s brought that program from good to very good these past few years with back-to-back Big Ten championships,” Jerod Smith told On3’s Chad Simmons about head coach Jim Harbaugh. “I think what’s next for them is a national championship. I’m hoping to help out with that. The way he’s developed that program to what it is to this day is very huge and it shows how good of a coach he is.”
