Jim Harbaugh addresses firing of Chris Partridge
The Friday before Michigan took on Maryland, the Wolverines again made headlines by accepting the three-game suspension by the Big Ten for head coach Jim Harbaugh and firing linebackers coach Chris Partridge.
In place of Chris Partridge, Michigan elevated Rick Minter to linebackers coach. When asked about the situation, Jim Harbaugh confirmed that it was his idea to elevate Minter while declining to speak about Partridge.
“It was my idea to elevate Rick Minter,” Jim Harbaugh said.
Partridge was reportedly fired by Michigan for attempting to destroy computer evidence relating to the sign-stealing scandal that Harbaugh was suspended by the Big Ten for. When the news came out, it was also reported a booster helped fund the scheme.
“I think that statement was put out by our university and described the situation. I don’t have anything to add about it.”
The university did release a statement following the decision to fire Partridge. In it, Michigan said it is cooperating with the NCAA’s investigation.
“From the outset, our focus has been on seeking due process and allowing the NCAA to conduct a fair and deliberate investigation. Although the Big Ten has closed its investigation, we are continuing to cooperate with the NCAA as it moves forward with its ongoing investigation,” the statement read. “Consistent with our commitment to integrity, we will continue to take the appropriate actions, including disciplinary measures, based on information we obtain. Earlier today, Michigan Athletics relieved Chris Partridge of his duties as a member of the Michigan Football staff. Due to employee privacy laws, we are unable to comment further.”

Amid all of this turmoil, Jim Harbaugh has also insisted that the locker room is still united. To explain how important that is, he dipped into his inner Ted Lasso.
“With all the outside noise, our locker room’s in one piece,” Harbaugh said. “Like my locker rooms a lot like my mom’s bathing suits; like to see them in one piece.”
Jim Harbaugh on his future at Michigan
Amid the sign-stealing scandal, there have been questions about Jim Harbaugh’s future at Michigan. Some are even wondering if he may try and take an NFL job. For now, though, Harbaugh is focused on getting the Wolverines ready for Ohio State.
“All the focus is on Ohio State,” Harbaugh said.
“This is where we’re at. That’s the focus. That’s part of the life lesson, to focus on the task in front of you. When you got a task in front of you, it’s a big task, you got to use every day, every hour, every minute. Plan, practice, get yourself right. Get yourself in position to go out there and play to the best of your ability.”
