Jim Harbaugh earns $1 million bonus for national championship victory
Jim Harbaugh finally accomplished his long-standing goal for the Michigan Wolverines, and he earned a sizable bonus for doing so.
The Wolverines were victorious on Monday, defeating the Washington Huskies and capping off a 15-0 season with a national title. In the process, Harbaugh secured a $1 million bonus for his coaching efforts, makings the night even sweeter for the Michigan leader.
“Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh will pick up a $1 million bonus for the Wolverines winning the CFP national championship,” Steve Berkowitz of USA TODAY Sports posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “He ends the season with $3 million in on-field bonuses.”
An undefeated season where you proven the doubters wrong, and $3 million in on-field bonuses is pretty incredible for Harbaugh. Even with all the controversy he dealt with throughout the season, we’re willing to bet he’d take the end result ten out of ten times.
Now the question becomes whether Harbaugh will remain with the Wolverines, or turn his attention to the NFL. He’s flirted with going back to the professional level over the last couple of seasons, but the last season could give him the push over the line he’s needed.
Time will tell, but Michigan and Jim Harbaugh will enjoy the heck out of being national champions for now, the latter also enjoying a nice chunk of change.

“It’s such a glorious feeling,” Harbaugh said when speaking to ESPN’s Holly Rowe. “Really don’t have any more words than that. Maybe to quote JJ McCarthy ‘Bet.’”
Moreover, Harbaugh did his interview with ESPN while soaking wet, finally getting a Gatorade bath. He was able to avoid the first one but when you win a national championship, players are going to be persistent.
There was also confetti flying down from the sky, with everyone on the Michigan side taking the moment in. Harbaugh was mesmerized and like his normal self, nearly speechless.
“You watch this confetti come down, it’s 1,000s of confetti,” Harbaugh began. “It tells a story. There is a story in every one of those pieces of confetti. Maize and Blue confetti. Just so proud of our team.”
Harbaugh is certainly right about there being a crazy story when it comes to Michigan’s season. Filled with controversy off-the-field, nobody involved with the program cares about that at the moment. For now, it’s about celebrating the long journey toward bringing another title back to Ann Arbor.
