Jim Harbaugh took some time to reflect on when he first met Michigan star Blake Corum following the national title game.

Since joining the Wolverines in 2020, Corum has evolved into the lifeblood of the Michigan program. He’s been there for some tremendous times, and some disappointing ones, but he’s never stopped running the ball with authority for Harbaugh’s program.

Speaking with the media after capturing their the biggest win of their respective careers, Harbaugh waxed poetic on Corum, harkening back to the running back’s recruitment, when there wasn’t anyone with a negative thing to say about him.

“There wasn’t one person who didn’t have something great to say about Blake Corum during the recruiting process,” Harbaugh stated. “Everybody he came in contact with, teachers at the school – you could go back to the grade school coaches. Biff loved him like a son. Coach Desai, everybody. And counselors, everybody.

“And get to see it for your own eyes. Man, they don’t come any better. This is as good as they come.”

Alas, Harbaugh recognizes that a player with the personality of Corum’s has been shaped by his parents growing up, and he made sure to credit them while speaking on the way Corum has blossomed since getting to Ann Arbor.

“Both of these parents poured into Will [Johnson], poured into Blake, poured in a great work ethic, discipline. And there’s an empathy side to both of these young men that’s very rare when it comes to a stalwart, a competitor, but also they care about other things than just themselves,” Harbaugh added. “Two great ones. People talk about the younger generation and what’s the next generation going to be like, and it’s going to be the demise of the culture. But we’re in really good hands.

“We’re in really good hands with guys like Will Johnson and Blake Corum and all the players, all the youngsters that I come in contact with on a daily basis.”

What Corum has done on the football field has been nothing short of fantastic, but it’s evident Jim Harbaugh harbors more respect for his running back’s off-field personality. Corum is the total package.

Some NFL team will be getting a star in the Michigan running back come the 2024 NFL Draft. All signs point to Corum being on his way out of the Wolverines, but he’s left them with enough memories to last a lifetime, and he’ll always be more than welcome in Ann Arbor.
