Jim Harbaugh says he'll get unique tattoo if Michigan goes undefeated, wins national title
Michigan has looked like the most dominant team in college football this season, and their undefeated 7-0 record reflects that.
Now, the Wolverines have eight wins separating themselves from a national championship. If Michigan can prove to finish the 2023 season undefeated and win the 2024 College Football Playoff — Harbaugh will get a tattoo to remember the season by.
“If we go undefeated, I’m going to get a 15-0 tattoo,” Harbaugh said on the Inside Michigan Football radio show, via Clayton Sayfie. “Probably on the shoulder. And a block ‘M’ over it.”
According to the head coach, Harbaugh has “no ink,” on his body, but is willing to change that if his team is able to get over the hump and finally win the national championship after getting knocked out in the CFP semifinal for two consecutive years.
Of course, Harbaugh could find himself in some hot water before he’s able to coach his team to the postseason. He’s made headlines over the past week thanks to an alleged sign-stealing situation that has reportedly seen a Michigan staffer purchase around 30 different tickets across 11 Big Ten programs over the past few seasons, which ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Mark Schlabach reported on Monday.

Last week, Harbaugh was quoted as saying that he had no knowledge of this incident. More information has become public knowledge over the past few days, and supposed security cameras from the various arenas have been said to depict someone filming a team’s sideline for the entirety of the game. This could ultimately help the NCAA come to a decision quicker than they would otherwise, as the evidence is damning if they can prove it.
At the end of the day, new NCAA rules put in place make the head coach responsible for the behavior or actions of the staff under him. Whether Harbaugh knew what was going on or not, he would still feel the brunt of the sanction’s impacts.
Until then, the Wolverines will look to continue to roll past their opposition, and Harbaugh can come up with tattoo designs.
With Michigan on its bye week during Week 9, the Wolverines will head into November undefeated with two huge matchups on the road against No. 10 Penn State on Nov. 11 and No. 3 Ohio State two weeks later in the season finale. If they can get through that gauntlet, the College Football Playoff is Michigan’s to lose.
