Michigan finally got the monkey off their backs last season. After losing eight straight editions of The Game, including six with Jim Harbaugh at the helm, the Wolverines finally beat Ohio State in a 42-27 victory in Ann Arbor in 2021. Now, with that pressure off of him, Harbaugh is ready to enter this season’s game and see what his team is about

Harbaugh reflected on last season’s win over the Buckeyes during a press conference earlier this week. He says his program is happy to be in the moment they are right now and that he is excited for the test that they’ll face tomorrow.

“That’s where we’re at right now. That’s my thoughts. It’s just a real honor. It’s a real honor to be in this position. To be able to test yourself physically, mentally, emotionally,” Harbaugh said. “We know it’s our toughest test of the year. And I think we’re gonna find that we’re made of the right stuff.”

The stakes in this game have been well-documented, especially this week. The Big Ten season has built up to this to determine which of Michigan or Ohio State will represent the East division in Indianapolis. It will also likely be a deciding game of which of the two makes this season’s College Football Playoff. That’s how it all played out in The Big House last year. Now, it’s all back up for grabs again in The Shoe on Saturday.

However, this is the most unique matchup the two have had in years. Michigan isn’t entering this game with dread considering the streak they were on. Harbaugh isn’t coaching with the narrative around him that he still had yet to beat the Buckeyes. Their win in 2021 should give them all the confidence they need to go to Columbus and compete on Saturday, whether they come out victorious in this year’s chapter or not.
