Jim Harbaugh takes shot at Ohio State, Ryan Day following big win
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh seemed to take a pointed shot at Ohio State head coach Ryan Day when asked about previous trash talk from his rival. After his first win in their annual rivalry game with the Buckeyes, Harbaugh took his chance to talk some trash of his own.
Jim Harbaugh on Ryan Day?
Harbaugh was asked if he had any thoughts on the trash talking coming from Ohio State, especially in recent years.
“Some people were born on third and think they hit a triple,” the Michigan coach simply responded.
Harbaugh’s comment didn’t specify who he meant, but it seems to be clear that their is still bad blood between him and Day. Even aside from the bitter rivalry both schools share, the coaches have exchanged words before in public fashion.
During the 2020 season, Harbaugh reportedly accused Ohio State of breaking rules with on-field instructions. The accusation drew particular attention because it happened during a Big Ten conference call, when Harbaugh brought up his grievance directly with Day.
Later that day, Day made a proclamation to his team that they were going to “hang 100” points on the Wolverines when they played each other. The two teams did not meet last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, putting the rivalry on pause until this year’s edition.
Harbaugh’s comment appeared to attack the fact that Day took over the well-established Ohio State program after Urban Meyer stepped down as coach in 2018. In 2019, Day led the Buckeyes to an undefeated season and a No. 2 ranking before losing finally to Clemson in the playoffs.

Ryan Day on disappointment in loss
In his post game press conference after the loss, Ryan Day talked about how upsetting it was to come up short in the Big Game.
“When you work for this game 365 days a year and you come up short, it’s a failure and it hurts, it hurts a lot. We didn’t run the ball very well on offense, hurt ourselves with penalties, and we didn’t stop the run on the other side of the ball,” Day said.
The Wolverines pounded and pummeled the rock down Ohio State’s throats all afternoon long. Michigan gashed Ohio State for 297 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 41 carries. Hassan Haskins had a career day, rushing for 169 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground on 28 carries.
Day also talked about the impressive Michigan rushing attack in the post game press conference. “Yeah, and you know they feel they control the game when that happens. They stayed on schedule the whole time, and I’m sure that was the recipe I’m sure they had to win the game. We weren’t able to stop that and that’s really, really disappointing. Especially when you know they’re going to do it. Got to take a hard look and figure out why that was.”
