The expectation in Ann Arbor is that Sherrone Moore will replace Jim Harbaugh as the head coach at Michigan. However, due to a state law, the process is going to extend a decision that Joel Klatt believes the Wolverines should have made within the hour of the Chargers’ announcement.

Klatt shared an initial thought on the maize & blue’s opening with a tweet after Harbaugh returned to the NFL. In order to keep the program in its place, he said that they should have announced a decision in favor of Moore within sixty minutes or so.

Still, once he realized that legislature was involved, Klatt understood why it wouldn’t play out that quickly. If it costs the Wolverines any significant players from their roster, though, he sarcastically said that there should be a removal of those in office who created these more complicated circumstances.

The emphasis for Klatt says everything about how high his regards are for Moore.

Moore, a member of the staff at Michigan for the last six years, is the clear-cut candidate to succeed Harbaugh. He may have been already but his experience as the interim head coach this year, as well as his success in that role, only adds to his resume as an option. He led them to a 4-0 record with wins over Penn State and Ohio State as part of that.

Klatt’s haste also states the importance of the reopening of the portal window for their team.

With Harbaugh heading to Los Angeles, the transfer portal became available to the Wolverines for longer. We’ve already seen some cases this offseason, specifically, and ironically, at Alabama and Washington, where coaching changes can lead to an exodus of transfers. That’s why swiftly naming a new coach that the players can buy into quickly is becoming more and more vital.

Still, for now, Michigan will have to wait until next week to officially hire someone else. At that point, though, Klatt wants them to have this signed, sealed, and delivered for Moore in naming him as their next head coach.

Adam Schefter: Sherrone Moore not being next coach would be a ‘major upset’

With Jim Harbaugh headed to Los Angeles, there’s a vacancy left at Michigan. However, it’s currently no secret regarding who is in the running to succeed him.

Adam Schefter discussed the Wolverines’ opening during the ‘College GameDay Podcast’ on Wednesday following Harbaugh’s departure. He believes that this season was a sneak peek at what’ll be ahead for the maize & blue. That’s why, by the end of the week-long wait, it’d be a surprise to Schefter if anyone besides Sherrone Moore is the next head coach.

“Well, I think we got a glimpse of the future when we saw Sherrone Moore,” said Schefter. “He stepped in, they went unbeaten under him. He has a lot of the qualities, I think, that school would be interested in.”

“I think they’ll look at some other people. But I think he goes into this as the undisputed favorite to get the job,” Schefter said. “I think it’d be a major upset if he didn’t get it in the end.”
