Juwan Howard shares how Michigan will continue their winning momentum
Michigan is doing everything they can to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive. Although they’ve helped their case with a three-game win streak and a run of six wins in games, Juwan Howard says the best thing his team can do right now is to not get ahead of themselves.
Howard described the next steps of Michigan’s process following their 87-79 overtime win over Wisconsin this weekend. He said he wanted his players to enjoy the win but, come Tuesday, he’ll need them ready to prepare for the next move of their step-by-step plan.
“We’ll come in on Tuesday and prep for Thursday’s matchup,” Howard said. “We’ve said it from day one that we’re just going to take it one game at a time. Never look forward, never look ahead.”
“Today, they owe it to themselves to enjoy this victory. It’s well-earned,” said Howard. “We’ll have an off-day tomorrow but I’m sure they’ll all be in the gym working out like they always do. Whether it’s getting shots up, getting treatment, watching film, and prepping for Tuesday…But one game at a time. That’s what we’re going to continue to keep focusing on.”

Michigan has put themselves back in postseason position with this recent run. However, things aren’t going to get any easier for them. At this moment, they sit in the ‘First Four Out’ section in the latest update to Bracketology. It’ll be a challenge to remain there too with a pair of road matchups to end their season in Champaign against Illinois and inside Assembly Hall versus Indiana.
Still, regardless of what happens, Howard wants the Wolverines to think just a step ahead rather than two or three. If they can do that, they’ll have a decent shot to still make the field after this week if they pair it with some positive results in the Big Ten Tournament.
