4-star WR Karmello English commits to Michigan

Phenix City (Ala.) Central four-star wide receiver Karmello English decommitted from Auburn on Sept. 14. Since then, Kentucky and Michigan jumped into the lead for his pledge.
English took official visits to both schools in the summer, as well as unofficials in the fall. On National Signing Day, the Alabama native revealed that the Wolverines won out.
“It’s a great atmosphere,” English told On3. “How well they treated me, how well (wide receivers) coach (Ron) Bellamy breaks everything down with me. It’s never just this or that. He always has an estimation for everything.”
Bellamy has been English’s main contact within the program. The Alabama native went to Ann Arbor three times, most recently on Oct. 15.
During his recruitment, English has gotten to know head coach Jim Harbaugh. Michigan’s head man made a positive impression on the 5-foot-11, 182-pound wideout.

“He’s a great offensive coach,” said English, the No. 191 overall prospect and No. 25 wide receiver in the 2023 On3 Consensus. “As of what I’ve seen, he’s another one who took his time with me and has fun and everything. It’s never just really been about football. It’s been about relationships. That’s really going to play a big role in it too because I told him from the jump, ‘I’m gonna come in and do what I gotta do to get on the field.'”
According to English, the decision between Kentucky and Michigan went “back and forth,” since he liked both coaching staffs. Each school worked hard for his pledge and got to know him well.
“Most of my relationships with both of those schools have been off of love,” English said. “Like I told them from day one, me going in, I know what I’m going to do. So we really don’t have to talk about football.”
