Kirk Herbstreit congratulates Michigan on winning national championship
Kirk Herbstreit was front and center for the first national title for Michigan in over a quarter of a century. Now, following the game and broadcast, he has shared his message for the Wolverines after winning it all.
Herbstreit sent out a tweet for No. 1 Michigan following their first national championship since 1997. He congratulated them on the accomplishment while also crediting them for being as locked in as they were during the course of their year, including when it came to their playoff appearance.
“Congratulations to @UMichFootball for winning the national championship!” wrote Herbstreit. “The team has been focused on this night for an entire year. Player led teams are the most dangerous teams. Congratulations.”
From the booth at ESPN, Herbstreit got to watch Michigan dismantle No. 2 Washington inside NRG Stadium firsthand. The Wolverines led from start to finish in what ended up being a dominant performance for the maize & blue as the top team in the field.
Michigan started hot with a 14-3 lead after the first quarter. That was with the help of a pair of 40-plus yard scoring rushes from RB Donovan Edwards. Then, after a back and forth stretch in the second and third, the fourth quarter was also all Wolverines. RB Blake Corum rushed in two scores of his own to eventually seal it for the victors by 21.

In total, Michigan put up nearly 150 more yards of offense. Most of that production came by way of two separates rushers with 100-plus yards. They also forced a pair of interceptions from QB Michael Penix Jr. as he completed a season-low of just 52.9% of his throws.
Herbstreit got to see and call the Wolverines’ crowing moment for himself alongside Chris Fowler. In the aftermath of the victory, he is one of the many who cover the sport that have offered Michigan his own congratulations on the title.
Ric Flair takes shot at Paul Finebaum after Michigan’s national championship
Paul Finebaum might be out of a job soon if Ric Flair has anything to say about it.
According to the Nature Boy, he wants to style and profile his way to Finebaum’s studio to take his spot on the SEC Network. After Michigan defeated Washington in the College Football Playoff, Flair had his tweet ready to send where he tagged Finebaum in the process.
“HA HA (Paul Finebaum) For Ever Doubting (Jim Harbaugh)! And According To You The NFL Would Never Take Him Either!” tweeted Flair. “I Want Your Job On SEC Network! Dumbass!”
