Without their head coach, most teams would, frankly, be doomed, especially on game day. However, without Jim Harbaugh, Michigan was able to keep their train rolling right on the tracks. That, in large part, was due to the leadership of OC Sherrone Moore

OL LaDarius Henderson, the left tackle for the Wolverines, spoke about that dynamic under Moore during an interview with On3’s Andy Staples during his show on Sunday. He said that everyone in their locker room bought in to Moore in those positions. That’s because they knew he was going to live and die with them like they were going to with him.

“I think we all knew he had it in him,” said Henderson. “None of us ever look at Coach Moore like, ‘Oh, this is a guy that’s going to coach a game scared. He’s going to leave some things on the play sheet’. He ain’t leaving nothing on the play sheet ever.”

“I think that’s one of the things that makes him so amazing. It’s why people desire to play for a guy like that. You know he’s going all in and we’re going all in,” Henderson said.

For Henderson as an individual, Moore was also the perfect coach for him. He was everything he was looking for after leaving Arizona State in the transfer portal.

“I really wanted to play for an offensive line coach that I felt like was similar to me and could really bring out the best in me. I felt like he was the guy,” said Henderson. “Obviously, he won two Joe Moore awards. Just knew a lot about the position and taking me to the next level. I felt like that’s just what I really wanted to do.”

Moore was the man in charge for Michigan in four games this season. As the offensive line coach and an offensive coordinator, he had to step in and wear the hat of a head coach for over half of the six games in which Harbaugh dealt with a suspension.

In the end, Moore did admirable work, especially in the Wolverines’ final three games. In their season’s three most difficult outings, he led them to a nine-point win at Penn State, a seven-point win at Maryland, and a win in The Game over Ohio State to put them in the Big Ten Championship.

Again, most programs, especially without a coach of Harbaugh’s caliber, would be lost without their captain at the helm. Moore was more than able to take control of the ship, though, and steer the Wolverines’ season to another conference title and one more appearance in the playoff.
