Vinny Freeman, the son of Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, is being recruited by Michigan wrestling after a home visit.
Head coach Sean Bormet took a visit with the Freeman’s in their attempt to bring Vinny Freeman to Ann Arbor. Currently a junior with Penn High School (Indiana), Freeman is currently ranked No. 3 in the state, per Indiana Mat. He’s 21-2 as a junior at 175 pounds and holds a career record of 85-16.
You can see the coaches and Vinny Freeman at home below.
“Great home visit with Coach (Sean Bormet),” Vinny Freeman wrote. “Thanks for stopping by.”
Of course, Vinny Freeman also plays football at his school. That would be natural considering his father’s football prowess.
Freeman is being recruited by several Division 1 powers in college wrestling, including Cornell. He took an official visit with the Big Red back in August.

Michigan is in a bit of a rebuilding year based on some injuries and developing young guys in the program.
The Wolverines landed transfers Chase Saldate and Jacob Cardenas, the latter firmly being in the 197 pound title picture. But they lost guys like All-American Dylan Ragusin (133) for the season due to injury.

But Bormet’s been successful as a coach since taking over, something that could be attractive to Freeman.
“So the first thing I noticed right away for both of them is they both have just a high level of passion for the sport and a great work ethic,” Bormet told On3 in October. “So they’ve been in here, and they just bring a ton of passion. Obviously, a lot with that passion comes a lot of effort and intensity in their training. They want to be great.
“They’re really excited to be here and have this grad transfer year here at Michigan with us. They were quickly adjusted and sort of accepted into our room, and just through their passion and (their) work ethic is contagious. So those guys fit right in right away.”
It seems Freeman will be more sought after as a wrestling recruit rather than football, but there’s still time to see how this situation develops.
