Michigan had an uneven 2021-22 season, featuring memorable moments and an impressive run in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. On Wednesday, the Wolverines celebrated their squad, announcing their awards for the 2021-22 college basketball season.

It was no surprise who cleaned up at the University of Michigan men’s basketball postseasons celebration, as star center Hunter Dickinson was named the Bill Buntin Most Valuable Player for the Wolverines. Additionally, Dickinson also took home the Rudy Tomjanovich Most Improved Award, as well as the Loy Vaught Rebounding Award.

On the season, Dickinson averaged 18.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Additionally, the Wolverines star’s prowess was on full display in the NCAA Tournament, as Dickinson dropped 27 points in an inspired upset over the ferocious Tennessee Volunteers.

In addition to Dickinson, star guard Eli Brooks took home a bevy of honors. The Wolverines guard was the recipient of the Wayman Britt Outstanding Defensive Player, Thad Garner Leadership Award, Iron Man Award and Award for Outstanding Free Throw Shooting. As you can see, Brooks was phenomenal for Michigan throughout the season.

Moreover, Brooks averaged 12.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists on the season for Michigan. Like the aforementioned Dickinson, Brooks shined when the lights were brightest, scoring a season-high 23 points when going up against the Volunteers in the NCAA Tournament.

“Leaving Ann Arbor as the all-time leader in games played (159) and career wins (124), Brooks used the COVID-19 extra year of eligibility to average a career-best 12.8 points and 3.7 rebounds while playing a team-best 35.9 minutes per game. He made a career-high 56 three-pointers and swiped a career-best 40 steals. During his final season, he became the 56th Wolverine to reach 1,000 points as he closed with 1,157,” highlighted Michigan.

“Brooks helped the Wolverines to a Big Ten regular season title (2021), a Big Ten Tournament title (2018), an NCAA Final Four appearance (2018) and a national title game appearance as well as three straight trips to the Sweet 16 (2020 was canceled due to COVID-19).”

Moving forward, Michigan will look to build on their success from this past season. However, it’s impossible to move forward without recognizing the athletes who starred for the Wolverines last year. Here’s the full list of the 2022 Michigan Men’s Basketball Awards recipients.
