What Does J.D. Make of Michigan in 2023?

Chris “Mad Dog” Russo was not satisfied with the Michigan schedule to this point whatsoever.

The No. 2 Wolverines go to Michigan State this weekend for a rivalry game, but played one of the easier schedules in the country, per Russo. On the surface, Mad Dog has a rightful gripe with Michigan.

However, the Wolverines blew out everyone its played so far, despite what the schedule may show.

“Forget the Michigan schedule, I mean, at least Ohio State played Notre Dame, forget the Michigan schedule,” Russo said on Mad Dog’s Daily Bite. “Anybody see the Michigan schedule to start the year in college football? The schedule, and this is why I can’t take Michigan seriously, is a disgrace. Michigan has played East Carolina, UNLV, Bowling Green and Rutgers all at home. Then they played at Nebraska, at Minnesota, Indiana, and then they play at Michigan State this week. And Purdue

“I mean, that is an absolute disgrace that Michigan right now is the second ranked team in the country and all they have played so far is the garbage that is the bottom half of the Big Ten and East Carolina, UNLV, Bowling Green, you know, out of the conference. I mean, that’s ridiculous. I mean, I can’t take that seriously.”

The non-conference schedule wasn’t good compared to Ohio State, which at least played Notre Dame, as Russo pointed out.

What’s left on Michigan’s schedule? Well, Michigan State, home against Purdue, at Penn State, at Maryland and then home against Ohio State.

So it does improve with the other two teams of the “Big Three” in the Big Ten. The combined record of Big Ten opponents the Wolverines defeated already is 13-12, with Rutgers coming in at the top at 5-2.

Far from the toughest conference schedule. So Michigan is 7-0 and No. 2 in the country, but it only gets tougher.

While Maryland isn’t ranked, going to College Park is no easy task with Taulia Tagovailoa running the offense.

Then of course, there’s Penn State and Ohio State left. The Wolverines are a rightful big favorite over MSU, which is now in the process of rebuilding.

Has Michigan’s schedule detracted from its success? Maybe in the eyes of some pundits.

But voters in the AP and Coaches Top 25 polls still have the Wolverines at No. 2 overall and its widely anticipated the maize and blue will be within the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings when the first ones are released October 31.

As long as Michigan takes care of business this weekend, the Wolverines will be 8-0 going into a bye week before the final stretch.

A disgrace of a schedule or not, the Wolverines ar rolling.
