Michigan commit Jett Howard joins cast of upcoming LeBron James movie as Carmelo Anthony
Michigan basketball commit Jett Howard, son of head coach Juwan Howard, will play Carmelo Anthony in the upcoming LeBron James movie. The news comes shortly after Oregon commit Mookie Cook was revealed to be cast as James in the upcoming movie titled Shooting Stars — a movie based on a novel by the same name that tells the story of James and his high school teammates as they battled to win a title in Akron.
In addition to Howard’s casting, Kentucky commit Chris Livingston is also going to be featured in the movie — although his role is unclear as of this time.
Jett Howard to play Carmelo Anthony on the big screen
“Michigan signee Jett Howard, son of Michigan head coach Juwan Howard, will also star in the LeBron’s new movie, playing the role of Carmelo Anthony. Juwan and LeBron won two NBA championships together (2012, 2013) in Miami,” detailed On3 Sports’ Joe Tipton.
Jett Howard may have connections to James via his father’s NBA career, but he will be playing one of the biggest rivals and peers of James’ career on the movie screen. Anthony led Oak Hill Academy against James in 2002 in one of the most highly anticipated high school games ever. In front of more than 11,000 fans, the high school phenoms battled in an incredible game that helped set both players up for their NBA futures.
James scored 36 points on 12-of-27 shooting along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Anthony posted a double-double with 34 points on 14-of-25 shooting and 11 rebounds. Anthony and Oak Hills Academy won the duel, 72-66 — improving to 25-1 on their season.

Eventually, the duo would be highlights of the famous 2003 NBA Draft class, with James being the number one overall pick and Anthony being selected third.
“Kentucky signee and Akron native Chris Livingston tells me he will also appear in LeBron’s upcoming film, Shooting Stars,” added Tipton. Livingston’s role in the movie wasn’t immediately available but Livingston comes from the same school, Oak Hills Academy, that Anthony played for.
Filming for the movie, which is based on the novel by James and Buzz Bissinger, starts this week in locations around Ohio. Shooting Stars chronicles the story of young LeBron James and his high school teammates in Akron as they battled to win a title.
Shooting Stars is a Universal and SpringHill Co. production but it won’t be in theatres. The movie will go straight to Peacock’s streaming services, per NBCUniversal.
